Dr Sivasankar Sangaraju

Dr Shankar Sangaraju has been a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust since July 2016. After graduating from prestigious Christian Medical College, Vellore, he undertook postgraduate medical training in various NHS hospitals across the UK. Cardiology training was obtained in the South West Peninsula deanery, sub-specialising in percutaneous coronary intervention/stenting and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI).

Dr Sangaraju sees patients with general cardiology problems including chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, heart valve problems, hypertension and heart failure. His sub-speciality expertise is in management of coronary artery disease, performing coronary intervention and stenting via radial (wrist) artery and treatment of aortic valve disease including TAVI. He undertakes coronary angiography, coronary angioplasty and stent insertion, pressure wire measurements, intracoronary imaging, complex coronary interventions and TAVI procedures with excellent outcomes.

As the Lead for Clinical Governance in Cardiology, he has a special interest in quality and safety in patient care. He is a member of the British Cardiovascular Society, British Cardiovascular Intervention Society and Royal College of Physicians.

He has presented at National and International conferences, published original research and maintains active interest in continuing professional development and cardiac research.
