Coronary Optical Coherence Tomography
During your coronary angiogram or coronary angioplasty, the operator may take the opportunity to take a closer look at the inside of your coronary arteries and any stent that may be present. This can be performed using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT).
A small infrared light-emitting probe can be passed over a very thin wire into your coronary arteries. The procedure is not painful and will provide valuable information for the operator in terms of planning subsequent treatment. It does not increase the risk of the original procedure, which remains at less than 1 in 100 risk of a serious complication developing.
Important Note: We currently do not provide this test at Peninsula Heart Clinic, but aim to do so in the near future.
