Cardiac Device Extraction

Cardiac device extraction refers to the removal of a cardiac device, most commonly a pacemaker, implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) or cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) device that has been placed in a patient to regulate the heart.

In most cases this procedure occurs when a device (usually one or more of the leads) has suffered a mechanical malfunction or has become infected and needs to be replaced. Cardiac device extraction is a very specialised procedure and requires particular expertise.
