About us
Peninsula Heart Clinic is a brand new, pioneering, state-of-the-art cardiology centre located alongside the South West Regional Cardiothoracic Centre at Derriford hospital in Plymouth
Peninsula Heart Clinic is designed to offer services primarily for NHS patients to help lower NHS waiting times, but also has the capacity to treat patients that wish to self-pay or use their private medical insurance.
We provide world-class specialist care and the very highest standards of patient service to all our patients regardless of whether you are NHS or private. Our ‘one-stop-shop’ operating model means patients have access to a comprehensive range of services under one roof to reduce the need for repeat visits to different hospital departments. From consultation & diagnostic tests through to cath lab procedures as well as clinics focusing on preventing and screening heart disease – we have it all covered.
We are led by the entire team of consultant cardiologists from University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, they are a multi-disciplinary team with expertise in managing every type of heart disease. Our cardiologists are all renowned in their respective areas of clinical practice with reputations synonymous with excellence at both a national and international level. They have all completed their training in pre-eminent centres in the UK and abroad and are among the best cardiologists in the UK.
We offer a comprehensive range of cardiology services ranging from consultations and diagnostics through to interventional cardiology, pacing and device implantation procedures. Our ‘Catheterisation Suite’ houses a state-of-the-art cardiac catheter lab system with an array of advanced equipment for treating heart disease. Alongside the catheterisation suite is a five bed day recovery unit ward and a five seated radial lounge. All of our recovery spaces have bedside cardiac monitors and the added reassurance of real-time monitoring via central cardiac telemetry systems – this means all patients are under round-the-clock supervision by our cardiac nurses.
Our ‘Outpatients Suite’ comprises a waiting area with six rooms and offers a full range of cardiology outpatient investigations – ECG, echocardiography, ambulatory ECG and blood pressure monitoring.
The comfort of our patients and visitors is a priority. We provide a quiet room for patients and their relatives, translation services, free wifi, a car drop-off area outside our main entrance, freshly brewed tea & bean-to-cup coffee, as well as a range of hotel services for patients having a cath lab procedure: newspapers, magazines, dressing robes, slippers and eye masks. In addition, we have three private patient rooms offering ensuite facilities. Each of our private rooms is equipped with smart TV, quality bed linen, bathroom towels, luxury toiletries as well as a bespoke menu of quality food & beverages prepared by our in-house catering department.
Peninsula Heart Clinic therefore provides a unique ‘best-of-both-worlds’ approach to safety and quality:
- Access to a modern state-of-the-art heart centre equipped with the very latest medical technology
- Operated by highly experienced clinical managers and well trained staff from the independent sector
- At the same time as being fully integrated with polices and care pathways used by the NHS
- The added confidence of being on a major NHS Regional Cardiothoracic Centre campus with support arrangements in place allowing access to a vast array of critical care resources from the NHS should they be needed
